BUCHAREST - THE ESSENTIALS
1. Palace of Parliament: the 2nd largest administrative building in the world after the Pentagon, the Palace of Parliament today houses the Chambers of Deputies and the Senate. (Visit possible - to pay on the spot, around 10€ per person)
2. The Lipscani district: The historic heart of the Romanian capital. It combines chic and classic, traditional and modern with its bars, restaurants, shops and concept stores. Walk through Lipscani street and the surrounding pedestrian streets to discover the Carturesti bookstore and the Stavropoleos church.
3. The Romanian Peasant Museum and the Romanian Village Museum: the first was devoted to art under Carol II, to devote itself after 1989 to Romanian crafts, architecture and folklore. The second, built in 1936, on the shore of Lake Herastrau contains more than 300 village houses. Try to find the house depicted on the 10 lei note! (Visit possible - to pay on the spot, around 10 € per person).
4. Calea Victoriei and the Romanian Athenaeum: The neo-classical buildings of the beginning of the 20th century stand alongside the concrete towers in the most dynamic artery of the city, bordered by luxury shops. Arriving at the Place de la Révolution, the Romanian Athenaeum dresses the eye. This concert hall, with exceptional acoustics, invites the greatest musicians. (Visit possible - to pay locally about 5 €)
5. "La Caru’ cu Bere ": this restaurant with an exceptional style, between the Bavarian tavern and the English neo-Gothic, with good traditional cuisine and at affordable prices.
6. Shopping in Bucharest: The shopping centers are numerous and very modern, open 7 days a week from 10AM to 10PM. The best known are, AFI Palace Cotroceni, Mall Vitan and Baneasa Shopping Center. They house the big known world brands as well as local shops.
